AI Engineer | Full Stack Developer

A probably caffeine addict developer. I have developed a robust skill set in various tech domains. My career began in 2020 as a Full Stack Developer, where I honed my expertise in JavaScript, Python, and modern frameworks like React.js and Angular. Transitioning to a Data Scientist role in 2022, I focused on machine learning and big data technologies. My experience as a Blockchain Developer at Crypto.com involved smart contract development and cryptography. In 2023, I briefly served as an IT Specialist at Kenya Ports Authority, managing IT systems. Currently, I work as a Freelance Artificial Intelligence Engineer, specializing in data manipulation, machine learning frameworks, and natural language processing. My diverse experience underscores my adaptability and proficiency in cutting-edge technologies.

Cloud Migration Project: Migrating On-Premises Infrastructure to AWS

The goal of the cloud migration project was to move the company’s on-premises infrastructure to AWS to improve scalability, flexibility, performance, and cost efficiency. The process began with a discovery and assessment phase, where the team analyzed existing systems, applications, and dependencies, identifying risks and migration complexity. Using this analysis, a cloud architecture was designed, selecting suitable AWS services and defining a strategy—lift-and-shift, re-platforming, or re-architecting—based on business and technical needs. The team then set up AWS environments, including VPCs, subnets, IAM roles, security groups, and connectivity via VPN or Direct Connect. For data migration, a tailored approach was used depending on volume and sensitivity: AWS Snowball for large datasets, AWS DataSync for active synchronization, and database replication when necessary. Application migration varied: lift-and-shift used AWS Server Migration Service and DMS, while re-architecting leveraged AWS Lambda, S3, RDS, and DynamoDB. Post-migration, extensive testing ensured system functionality, performance, and security. Testing validated business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities. Once testing passed, the cut-over phase was executed—traffic was redirected, DNS updated, and systems monitored closely to ensure a smooth transition. After migration, performance, cost, and security were continuously optimized. The project succeeded in modernizing infrastructure, reducing overhead, and enabling cloud-native scalability. Success was driven by careful planning, strong execution, and alignment with AWS best practices.See More
