Katie Bernard
Machine Learning Scientist at Oxipital AI
I graduated cum laude with honors in computer science and a minor in creative writing from Colby College. My honors thesis was on deep learning for predicting human driving behavior. I am passionate about entrepreneurship and product design, with hands-on experience in machine learning, product strategy, and user-focused development. Last summer, I researched, ideated, and built AI solutions for Ubongo, Africa’s leading EdTech company, where I designed and deployed a metadata extraction tool to enhance content searchability. I also founded an award-winning early stage startup ExamWell, built an MVP, conducted user research with 30+ educators, pitched on Greenlight Maine TV, and won grants and pitch competitions. Previously, I interned as a Software Developer at Tyler Technologies, where I worked in AGILE development, resolved high-priority software bugs, and implemented client-requested features in a public-sector payroll system. Beyond my technical experience, I am passionate about responsible AI and served as a University Network Board Member at All Tech Is Human, contributing to discussions on AI ethics, bias mitigation, and technology’s societal impact.
